(Lycopersicon Esculentum ‘Giant Tree’)

A quick growing tomato with very large fruit that can be trained to grow like a tree. It has an extended growing season in frost free areas.

Flavours/Food Partners

The mild flavour of these tomatoes partner well with Latin herbs like garlic, basil oregano, marjoram, rosemary and thyme when cooked or raw with coriander, dill and parsley. Use with onions, zucchini, eggplant and red meats like lamb and beef.

Health/Cooking/Medicinal

Like all tomatoes, the Giant Tree is high in the cancer fighting agent, Lycopene. This is enhanced by moderate cooking. This is a great variety for baking, stuffing or as the base for a good salsa. Due to its size it is excellent for sauces and sandwiches.

Landscaping/Planting

Plant in an airy, sunny position in well drained soil or very large pots. Trim off lower side shoots when young then at about 1.5m pinch out centre leader to create a tree like shape. Requires a 1.6 to 2.0m stake.

Cultivation/Fertiliser

Like all tomatoes it must receive a deep soaking when almost dry and should not receive overhead watering. Feed regularly with Seasol and Powerfeed. A small amount of dolomite lime after planting will make stronger plants. Remove side shoots and develop two or three main leaders. Harvest when fruit is full colour.
